What is Brain Fog—and Can Science Fix It?

Writer: Dustin SheffieldDustin Sheffield

If you’ve ever felt like your brain’s stuck in a haze—struggling to focus, forgetting where you parked, or just feeling off—you’re not alone. They call it brain fog, and all of us have suffered from it at one time or another. I’ve been there too, wondering why my mind feels like it’s wading through quicksand. As Tidal Media shifts gears to focus on Health Innovations, I’m starting this journey by digging into brain fog—what it is, why it’s a real issue, and whether science has a fix. Is something like Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) the answer? Dr. Awodele at Braincare Performance Center Carlsbad definitely thinks so.

What’s This Brain Fog Thing Anyway?

Okay, so brain fog isn’t some official disease you’ll find in a textbook. It’s more like a nickname for that fuzzy, slow-motion feeling in your head. You know the drill: you’re trying to finish a task, but your thoughts just won’t line up. It’s not always about being tired—sometimes it hits out of nowhere. I used to think it was just me having too much on my plate, but the more I look into it, the more I realize it’s a legit problem for tons of people.

Why Does It Happen?

From what I’ve been reading, brain fog can come from all sorts of places. Maybe it’s a bad night’s sleep or too much coffee (Couldn't be the coffee). But it’s not always that simple. Stress can do it. What we eat—or all those hidden junky chemicals in our food—might play a role too. Then there’s the heavier stuff: chronic illness, depression, even chemo can leave your brain feeling like it’s on pause.

Could Science Have the Answer?

Here’s where it gets interesting. Sure, I could try sleeping more or cutting back on late-night scrolling. But science is cooking up some next-level stuff too. Take Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation—rTMS for short. It’s this non-invasive treatment where they use magnetic pulses to nudge your brain back into gear. Our client Braincare Performance Center is doing this for everything from brain fog and mood struggles to autism and depression. Does it work? Dr. Awodele and his clients sure think so and they're sharing their testimonials with our cameras right now. I’m already intrigued enough to give it a shot myself later this year. I'm on a mission to get optimized and a sharper mind is on the top of my list.

This is why I’m so excited about Tidal Media’s new direction. I can’t wait to share treatments like TMS—hidden gems you don’t need a diagnosis to try. We’re turning these cool advances into videos that are clear and easy to get, so everyone can see the potential. That’s us: making health tech simple and approachable.
