One of the biggest reasons video projects go off track is poor communication. Even great creative work can feel frustrating if you’re left in the dark or getting slow responses.
Here’s what good communication with a video production company actually looks like and how to make sure you stay aligned throughout the project.
Set communication expectations upfront
Ask how often they’ll send updates, who your main point of contact will be, and what their typical response time is. Clear expectations from the beginning prevent a lot of unnecessary stress.
Ask for regular progress updates
You shouldn’t have to chase information. A good partner will proactively let you know where things stand, especially during editing and revision stages.
Be responsive when they need input
Projects move faster when feedback comes back in a timely way. If you know you’ll be slow to respond at certain times, let them know in advance so they can plan around it.
Use clear and specific communication
Vague feedback like “make it pop more” is hard to act on. The more specific you can be, the better the final result will be.
Have a system for questions and changes
Whether it’s email, a shared doc, or a project management tool, having one clear place for notes and questions keeps everything organized.
Strong communication doesn’t mean constant back-and-forth. It means both sides feel informed and confident that the project is moving in the right direction.
