When you’re looking for a video production partner, one of the most important things to figure out is whether they actually have the right kind of experience for your business. A beautiful portfolio doesn’t always tell the full story.

Here’s how to evaluate a video production company’s experience so you can make a confident decision:

Look beyond the highlight reel

Most companies will show you their best work. Ask to see projects that are similar in scope, style, and industry to what you’re planning. If they mostly do big brand commercials but you run a local service business, that experience might not translate as well as you’d hope.

Ask for measurable results

Good partners can talk about what their videos actually achieved for clients. Did the work generate more leads? Book more appointments? Increase trust or sales? Results are what matter.

Check how long they’ve been doing this kind of work

Experience isn’t just about years in business. It’s about how much relevant work they’ve done recently. A company that’s been around for ten years but only started doing service-based videos last year is very different from one that’s been focused on your type of clients for a while.

Talk to past clients

If possible, ask for references or case studies with direct contact info. A quick conversation with a previous client can tell you a lot about how the company communicates, handles revisions, and delivers on what they promise.

See if they understand your industry

You don’t need a partner who only works in your exact niche, but they should be able to speak intelligently about your customers, common objections, and what tends to work in your space.

Taking the time to properly evaluate experience helps you avoid partners who look good on paper but struggle once the project starts.

If you’re in the process of evaluating video production companies and want a second set of eyes on what you’re seeing, book a discovery call. We can talk through what stands out in their experience and whether it lines up with what you need.
